With today's technology the way it is it has become virtually impossible to tell a well-crafted counterfeit from the authentic without taking it to a skilled and qualified jeweler. This is especially true with stainless steel models. Advancements in counterfeit manufacture have progressed to such a level that it is usually necessary to literally open the back of the watch case and inspect the interior components themselves to ascertain authenticity. Some of today's "Swiss-Made" counterfeits can now run into the hundreds of dollars. In rare cases even into the thousands where counterfeit watch makers will even work in real 14K & 18K gold. Primarily Chinese based companies continue to produce counterfeit watches at staggering numbers and with current technology and the internet, Chinese based companies can now openly market counterfeit products to markets in the United States, Great Britain and Europe. But the real danger lies with the unsuspecting buyer who believes he is buying a real genuine Rolex watch from a private seller who may have advertised a fake as a "Genuine Rolex" watch he has and must sell for a substantially discounted price on the internet. What amazes me most is not the fact that the guy "must sell' his $6k watch for $1500. If it's a genuine Rolex worth $6K, any reputable jeweler will gladly shell out $1500 to buy it from him at such a substantially low price. But that so many people out there will fall for this. It is one thing to knowingly buy a fake Rolex, but it's another thing altogether to think you are buying a real Rolex and instead end up buying a well-made, modern counterfeit Rolex. The purpose of this book is to show legitimate buyers every model that we know of that is out there being counterfeited in detail. Who would suspect that the "vintage" model is really a vintage fake that was recently manufactured and manufactured to look exactly in every detail like the "real" model.
